What it is
A service and a tray app
A Windows Service does the probing and the talking. A tray application shows current state and lets someone acknowledge an alert without opening a console. They speak over a local pipe; nothing in between crosses the network.
The same sensor, in software
HopWarden is the software form of the MAH7 IPSemaphore hardware sensor. The measurement engine is a direct port of the firmware's, so a software sensor and an appliance report the same numbers for the same conditions.
Free to run
No account, no registration, no per-device fee. You may install and run HopWarden on any number of devices you own or control, for any lawful purpose, including commercial use. That is the license, not an introductory offer.
Optional cloud
Enroll only if you want the fleet
Enrolling a sensor with a MAH7 account adds fleet monitoring, remote status, alerting and retention. A sensor that is never enrolled keeps working on its own.
Keys that cannot be copied off
Each enrolled device generates its own ES256 keypair in the Windows key store and registers only the public half. It signs its own short-lived credential to connect. There is no shared secret to leak and nothing to re-issue across a fleet.
Availability
The current build is 1.2.0.1. Downloads are not open yet — the MAH7 portal is in closed beta and access is by invitation while it is being finished.
